Cellist Taewoong Chae is currently a fourth-year student at the Korea National University of Arts (KNUA). He attended Yewon School and Seoul Arts High School, where he entered as the top-ranked student, and subsequently gained admission to the KNUA's highly selective Bachelor's program two years earlier than the typical age for his cohort.
He has swept the top prizes at many of South Korea's most prestigious competitions. His accolades include First Prize at theJoongAng Music Competition (widely considered the most authoritative in Korea), the Ewha Kyunghyang Competition, and the Sejong Music Competition. He also won the Grand Prize (Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award) at the TBC Competition. His honors further include Second Prize in the Strings category of the KBS-KEPCO Music Competition, receiving the 14th Shinhan Music Award, and being selected as 'Rookie of the Year' for the Chosun Ilbo Debut Concert. For these achievements, he was honored as a recipient of the 'Yewon Distinguished Alumni Award.'
He has appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the KBS Symphony Orchestra, the Seongnam Philharmonic Orchestra, the New World Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Gyeongbuk Provincial Orchestra. His active performance schedule also includes a Kumho Young Artist Recital, a Shinhan Art Hall Recital, the K-ARTS Chamber Music Night, The House Concert, and the Shinhan Classic Week (at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts).
He has broadened his experience through international masterclasses and concerts. Notably, he performed at the Palais Kaufmännischer Verein in Linz through a masterclass and performance co-hosted by the KBS-KEPCO Music Competition and the Anton Bruckner Private University in Austria. He also participated in masterclasses co-hosted by the Shinhan Music Award, The Juilliard School, and the Manhattan School of Music.
